Voice in The Earth

                                                 Ceramic Artist Gus McCloskey

Profile

After graduating from Pratt Institute of Art in New York, personal travels took him to Japan, which had a profound influence on his style. Following that inspiration led him to complete several rigorous traditional apprenticeships over a period of 5 years with master potters in a secluded mountainous region on the southern island of Kyushu. These apprenticeships provided a disciplined foundation for his personal expression by submerging himself in old world aesthetics he discovered a voice in the earth.
A Japanese proverb says "Look into the old to find the new".

KAMAMOTO
Japanese Gallery Hisago opened on September 29, 2007 and operates as what is known as a Kamamoto. This is a family based business in Japan usually where the living quarters, pottery production and sales facilities are all on the same premises. Ceramic artist, Gus McCloskey and his wife, cultural director, Hisayo have lived in Boerne since 2005 after having lived in Fuokuoka, Japan for over 15 years.
This is the first and only gallery in central Texas which directly represents Japanese culture which includes a beautiful tearoom and rock garden. All the works in the gallery are handmade here in the Boerne studio with authentic Japanese techniques.
